Everyone always talks about Canggu or Ubud or Uluwatu, but what about Denpasar? It’s the capital, right? Is there any reason to consider buying real estate there, or is it just too urban and chaotic?

It depends what you’re looking for. I actually live in Denpasar and work from home, and I chose this area because of the infrastructure and price. Real estate in Denpasar is significantly cheaper than beachside areas, and you get solid roads, hospitals, schools, and tons of local markets and warungs. My 2-bedroom apartment cost around $85,000 and is located in a quiet alley near Renon Park. It’s not glamorous, but it’s practical — reliable Wi-Fi, good water pressure, no loud bars at night. You’re also 15–20 mins from Sanur or Seminyak, so beach access isn’t far. It’s not the best place for short-term rental income, but for long-term living or owning a “base” in Bali, Denpasar offers stability and great local flavor. Plus, the expat community here is more blended with locals, which gives it a more authentic vibe.
